聯合國難民事務高級專員公署（UNHCR）在日內瓦表示，難民署正與不同國家聯繫討論應變辦法。聯合國難民署發言人佛萊明（Melissa Fleming）婉拒點名國家，也不願建議可能的路線，僅表示，「這會是1場奮戰，就像馬其頓與希臘一直以來經歷的那樣」。（譯者：中央社鄭詩韻）1040916
目前有數千名難民聚集於塞爾維亞試圖進入匈牙利。塞爾維亞不是歐盟成員，但和歐盟成員國羅馬尼亞以及克羅埃西亞接壤。克羅埃西亞也和可通往義大利與奧地利的斯洛維尼亞相鄰。
